My Top 5 Christmas Films

I wanted to write a top 5 Christmas films list because I absolutely adore watching anything Christmassy. Christmas is my favourite time of year and I love nothing more than cosying up under a blanket with a box of Celebrations to watch a really good Christmas film. The title of each film will also be a link to the trailer just in case you want to watch the trailers before deciding which one you're in the mood for.

I was 9 years old when Elf was originally released in 2003, which I actually find quite hard to believe as I feel like I've grown up with this film from a much younger age. I religiously watch it every year and have done for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I use to be in hysterics when Buddy the elf (Will Ferrell) drank an entire 2 litre bottle of Coca-Cola and did the most horrendous, loud and obnoxious burp you'd ever hope to hear. Will Ferrell was my favourite actor for a good few years when I was younger purely because of this film, I absolutely loved it back then and I still absolutely love it now. It's hasn't aged at all, it's still as funny as it ever was and in my opinion it's the best Christmas film ever made.

Christmas with the Kranks is one of my favourite Christmas films and over the years it has become a family tradition to watch it during the build up to Christmas. It's about a couple (Tim Allen & Jamie Lee Curtis) who decide to skip Christmas and all of it's festivities to save money and to go on a cruise. It follows their journey as they hide from their Christmas obsessed neighbours and friends who get progressively angry and concerned that the Kranks aren't putting up Christmas decorations, donating to charity or hosting their annual Christmas Eve party. I don't want to give away the whole plot so I'll just say that it's a very light-hearted, family friendly Christmas comedy that's definitely worth a watch this Christmas.

If you love a good romance film you're going to love The Holiday. This film always makes me feel extremely cosy and warm and never fails to puts a smile on my face. Not only is the storyline amazing but it also has an incredible cast, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet star as two similarly lonely, fed up and romantically depressed women who switch houses for the holidays. Being so far away from home they both find happiness within themselves and also find potential love interests in Graham (Jude Law) and Miles (Jack Black). If you've not seen The Holiday I would recommend giving it a watch this Christmas as I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Love Actually follows the lives of eight couples during the weeks leading up to Christmas. It tells eight different stories and eight different versions and meanings of love. I have always loved this film and I laugh every time Hugh Grant dances down the staircase. All of the characters are incredibly loveable and it would be difficult not to relate to at least one, if not all, of the eight couples in some way or another. Similarly to The Holiday, this film has an incredible cast, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson and so many other huge names form the eight couples. If you, like me, have already seen this a million and one times before, I suggest checking out the 15 minute 'Red Nose Day Actually' they did in 2017 because that is equally as special and heart-warming to watch and even features some more of Hugh Grant's dance moves.

The Santa Clause is a light-hearted family film about Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) a man who accidentally causes Santa Claus to fall from his roof, killing him and making him magically disappear. It is then Scott and his son Charlie's responsibility to finish Santa's deliveries in order to save Christmas. After unintentionally becoming Santa Claus we then follow his story as his hair turns grey, his beard grows longer and his belly gets bigger. Without ruining too much of the plot, it soon becomes time for him to save Christmas once again and to become Santa Claus for good. This is a really enjoyable and festive film that will get you in the mood for all of the fun things you have planned this Christmas and if you have kids, they'll love it too.

I've done a few lists like this on by blog now and I always name a few extras at the bottom just in case you've already seen everything I've mentioned and to be honest it was quite difficult to pick a top five when there are so many Christmas films that I love. So if nothing on my list took your fancy there are obviously a few classics that I haven't included, such as, Jingle all the Way, Home Alone and Santa Who? that are very fun and enjoyable Christmas comedies. I also remember loving a film called 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' staring Dylan and Cole Sprouse when I was younger, I've not seen it in years because it's quite hard to track down or is quite over priced for an old DVD on Amazon but that might be one I try to watch this year.

I'd also highly recommend taking a look at The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix, it was only released a couple of weeks ago and it's very good, one the best modern Christmas films I've seen in years. I hope you enjoyed this list, if you have an recommendations for me be sure to leave them in the comments section below! Merry Christmas everyone!
